Fra 1925 ansat ved tysk politi, i 1933 ansat hos Gestapo, fra 1934 medlem af det nazistiske tyske parti og SS-mand. Kom til Danmark som Gestapo chef i Esbjerg fra september 1943, forflyttet 1. juni 1944 til Gestapo chef for Kolding, hvor han var chef frem til befrielsen 1945. Burfeind var professionel politimand, og tog i følge danske fangers beretninger om Staldgården ikke selv del i mishandlingerne. Efter befrielsen slap Burfeind ud af Danmark, opsporet 14 km syd for grænsen til Tyskland i maj 1945, han anholdes og udleveres som allieret krigsfange til Danmark, hvor han føres til København. Dømt under retsopgøret i 1949 til otte års fængsel, idømt tillægsstraf 1950 på fire års fængsel, benådet og udvist til Tyskland i 1953, hvor han angiveligt senere blev afnazificeret.</ins></div></td></tr>
